Unsolved Murder: Mike Grair

On October 10, 2008, Michael Grair's body was found inside his white Cadillac Escalade behind a vacant commercial center he owned. The engine was still running. Davina & Brock Husted

Unsolved Murder
On May 20, 2009, an intruder wearing a dark jumpsuit and a motorcycle helmet, entered the home of Davina & Brock Husted. After a brief confrontation, the suspect murdered both the husband and pregnant wife while the children were at home.

The case has not been solved and has yet to be determined if it was targeted or random.

DETAILS:

An undercover Oxnard police officer driving in the area of Third Street and Rose Avenue witnessed a driver fire several shots from a vehicle. The suspect was arrested shortly thereafter without incident.

The vehicle, a black GMC Colorado pick-up, was followed by the undercover investigator to the intersection of Third Street and “A” Street where uniformed Oxnard officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, Carlos Eduardo Zuzumbio, without incident. A loaded .380 caliber handgun was recovered from the pick-up along with two spent bullet cartridges.

The motive for the assault is not known. The intended victim was apparently not injured in the incident. Officers checked the area for the victim but could not locate him.

Zuzumbio was booked into the Ventura County Jail on a number of charges including assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a loaded firearm. His bail was set at $20,000.

An investigation is continuing.

DETAILS:

On 10-29-08 at 4:00 PM officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of a shooting victim in the alley of the 1000 block Douglas Ave. Upon their arrival they contacted the victim that was shot once in the hand. The victim said he was in the alley when he was approached and shot once. The suspects fled the area on foot.

The victim was treated at the scene and refused to go to the hospital.

If anyone has information on this shooting they are asked to contact Det. Chris Williams at (805) 486-6228.

On October 26, 2008 at 4:17 PM Officer’s from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 2800 block of South Ventura Rd. Upon their arrival they found one victim in the drive-thru of the fast food restaurant south of the businesses. He was suffering from a single gunshot wound to his side. He was treated and transported to St John’s Regional Medical Center and later released.

Witnesses said the shooting took place in front of the businesses and the suspects fled in a dark colored Toyota Corolla or Camry. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit responded and collected evidence at the scene.

Detectives worked throughout the night to get the suspect identified. After getting a positive ID the suspect he was taken into custody leaving Oxnard at 11:30 this morning. The suspect is being charged with (2) counts of assault with a deadly weapon and a gang enhancement. A bail increase is being requested due to the serious nature of these crimes. The suspect was booked into the Ventura County Jail for the above charges.

DETAILS:

On Sunday October 26, 2008 at about 1:00 A.M. Officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to an Injury collision at the intersection of Harbor Blvd and Channel Islands Blvd. Upon arrival, officers found that the Ford Mustang had collided into a traffic signal pole, with such force, that it caused the front end of the vehicle to twist upside-down. The vehicle continued another 100 feet before coming to rest on the south sidewalk of Channel Islands Blvd. Officers also found a male lying on the ground next to the Ford. The male sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead by the Oxnard Fire Department personnel.

A female passenger was also found inside the vehicle, and she was rushed by Gold Coast Ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries. Officers have not been able to interview her as of yet, due to her injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Harbor Blvd at a very high rate of speed. When it came upon the curve in the roadway, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the traffic pole. At this time it is undetermined if alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The Oxnard Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public. If you witnessed the collision or have any information regarding the collision please contact the Traffic Investigator, Officer Nate Martin at 805-385-7750.

DETAILS:
On 10/20/2008 at approximately 7:20 pm, officers from the Oxnard Police Department were sent to a call of a shooting victim in the 100 block of Stanford Ave. Upon their arrival, the officers located the victim who was identified as 34 year old Victor Navarro of Oxnard lying in the front yard of a residence. Navarro appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

Officers located a second shooting victim who was found inside of a vehicle in the area. The name of that victim is being withheld. The second victim is a 34 year old male resident of Oxnard. He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. He is expected to survive.

Details leading up to the shooting are unclear at the time of the press release. Apparently the surviving victim was inside of a vehicle with Navarro at the time of the shooting. The two were fired upon by an unknown subject who may have possibly fled the area on foot.

DETAILS:


On Saturday October 18, 2008 at about 1:45 A.M., Officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to an injury collision in the 2000 block of South J Street. Upon arrival, officers found that a motorcycle had collided into the rear of a grey Ford pick-up truck. Officers also found a male lying on the ground underneath the Ford. Officers found that the male was unresponsive. The Oxnard Fire Department and Gold Coast Ambulance responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Honda motorcycle, driven by Mr. Ralph Robert Quijada, was traveling northbound on “J” Street towards a bend in the roadway at an unknown rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Mr. Quijada lost control of the Honda as he negotiated the bend in the roadway and veered to the right. The motorcycle and Mr. Quijada began to fall to the ground when the motorcycle and Mr. Quijada struck the rear of the grey Ford truck. The collision into the Ford truck pushed the Ford forward into the yellow Dodge Ram truck. Both the Ford and the Dodge were parked legally on “J” Street. The motorcycle sustained major damage. The Ford and the Dodge sustained minor damage.

Mr. Quijada was pronounced dead at 0158 hours by Paramedic Smith of Gold Coast Ambulance.

Located within the collision scene was an open can of beer. At this time it is undetermined if alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The Oxnard Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public. If you witnessed the collision or have any information regarding this collision please contact the Traffic Investigator, Senior Officer Maria PeƱa at 805-385-7750.

DETAILS:
On 10-13-08 at 2030 hours officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to a stabbing victim in front of the theatre located across the street from Plaza Park. When officers arrived they contacted the juvenile victim he had sustained a stab wound to the chest. He told officers that a group of suspect(s) hit him from behind and took his skateboard. When he got up from the ground he noticed he had been stabbed. He walked over to the courtyard near the theatre to request assistance.

The victim was treated and transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition. Due to the age of the victim his name is being withheld.

The Violent Crimes detectives have no leads on what had happened to the victim.

Investigators are asking for the community’s assistance.

DETAILS:

On 10/10/08 at approximately 0023 hours, Oxnard police received a call of a shooting victim in the 500 block of South M Street. Officers arrived and found the victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel provided first aid and then transported him to St. John’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The victim told officers that he was approached by the suspect armed with a handgun. After a brief conversation the suspect opened fire, hitting the victim multiple times. The victim was in stable condition and may be released from the hospital today.

Any person who has information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact Detective Chris Williams at (805) 486-6228 or the Violent Crimes Hotline at (805) 982-7070 where all callers can remain anonymous.

Investigators believe this may be a gang-related incident.

DETAILS:

Detectives from the Oxnard Police Department conducted an investigation into six pizza robberies that occurred from 2-18-08 to 3-27-08. The victims were pizza delivery drivers from the above establishments. The suspects phoned in delivery orders, and when the orders were delivered would threaten and batter the delivery drivers with fists and various items including sticks and bricks.

The suspects would take the contents of the order and flee. After a 7 month investigation Oxnard Police Department Detectives arrested Diego Garcia and two juveniles for the six robberies.

Garcia was booked into Ventura County Jail on $250,000 bail, and the juveniles were booked into Juvenile Hall.

ON 10/04/08, at approximately 0259 hours, two vehicles were stopped for the red light at Rose Avenue and Gonzales Road. Two suspects exited one vehicle and confronted the victim in the other car. During the ensuing altercation the victim was stabbed several times.

The victim was transported to St. John's Regional Medical Center by the ambulance. He is listed in critical condition.

Vagabond Motel located at 1245 North Oxnard Blvd.

18 and 26 year-old Oxnard residents

21 year-old Hispanic male
23 year-old Black male

DETAILS:

On 10/4/08 at approximately 0315 hours, the victims were attending a party at the Vagabond Motel. They were approached by two subjects who demanded their money and jewelry. When one of the victims refused to hand over his jewelry he was struck in the head with a beer bottle. The other victim was struck several times with a baseball bat.

Both suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money and are still outstanding.
