On 9/26/08, a silent lojack signal was being tracked by marked Port Hueneme police vehicles. The signal led police to the stolen Nissan Altima, located in the 1100 block of Fifth Street in the City of Port Hueneme. This vehicle was reported stolen earlier this date to the Oxnard Police Department. Members of the Ventura County Auto Theft Taskforce conducted surveillance on the stolen Nissan Altima.
At approximately 1100 hours, a pickup truck pulled up next to the stolen vehicle and one suspect began vandalizing the vehicle. Both suspects then entered the pickup truck and left the area. A stop was conducted on the vehicle.
During the investigation, it was determined that the owner of the pickup truck was the owner of the stolen vehicle. During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect reported his vehicle stolen to commit insurance fraud.
It is illegal to falsely report vehicles stolen to commit insurance fraud.
