Great job, Oxnard PD!

Posted by Elidet Reyes
Being a police officer is a thankless job.

When a shooting happens, cops are sometimes the ones that take the blame for the actions of a few knuckle heads. Cops are somehow blamed for gang related activity and some people even accuse the police department of being corrupt. This is not so. No one ever notices all the good that does happen, so I wanted to take this Sunday to point out some obvious job well done stories.

Let's recap the wonderful job the Oxnard Police Department has done this month:

August 25th: Detectives from the Oxnard Police Department, working with the assistance of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department and the United States Marshals Office, took murder suspect Jeffrey Aguilar into custody.

August 29th: Officers screened 1142 motorists who passed through sobriety checkpoints. There were four drivers arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Four may not seem like a lot to you, but let's not forget that all it takes is one drunk driver to change the lives of many.

August 29th: Oxnard police officer Brian Bishop arrested a 16 year-old student in the lobby of Hueneme High School for possession of a loaded handgun. The student had a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun wrapped in a shirt.

Officer Bishop also wanted to question the same student for his involvement in a verbal altercation on campus Thursday.

Officer Bishop prevented a school shooting. This was probably one of the biggest tragedies prevented this month!

Thank you, Oxnard PD!
